If you find a dog wandering the streets or seemingly lost in the Pego area, the first thing to do is call the local police 965570118. They can check the dog to see if it has a microchip (legally all dogs should have). If it does, then they will contact the owner and organise the dog to be collected. If the dog does not have a microchip, it can be bought to our shelter. If you find a dog outside the Pego area, please contact the local police in the nearest town, they will check the chip and contact the nearest animal shelter.

Under the new animal protection laws that came into force September 2023, any dog or cat without a microchip is deemed abandoned and therefore without an owner. Often, dogs and cats are left anonymously in the kennel outside the shelter. We will check to see if they are microchipped.

This section of our website is for animals whose history we don’t know and who may have loving homes and owners who are looking for them. Maybe you know the animal, maybe you know their family. If so, please get in touch with us so that we can return them to their real homes, or at least discover their story.
